MetroBloks LLC Proposes 109,000-Square-Foot Data Center in Southfield Amid Resident Concerns
MetroBloks LLC has proposed a 109,000-square-foot data center on Inkster Road near 11 Mile Road in Southfield, Michigan. During a city council meeting, residents expressed concerns about noise, traffic, and potential impacts on the local power grid and property values.
While the developer was absent from the meeting, they previously stated that the project would not raise utility rates and would utilize a closed-loop cooling system that uses approximately 40,000 gallons of water. Council President Charles Hicks highlighted the long-term investment potential of the data center and the city's experience with existing facilities.
Some residents are supportive, while others called for an environmental and utility impact study before any approval is granted. The city currently hosts nine data centers.
