Mindanao State University Develops SmartRAS to Enhance Mangrove Crab Hatchery Success

AMMONIA

Mindanao State University's Iligan Institute of Technology is developing the SmartRAS, a recirculating aquaculture system aimed at improving hatchery survival rates for mangrove crabs and reducing dependence on wild-caught populations. This innovative system enhances water quality and temperature control, resulting in higher survival and spawning rates while minimizing ammonia and nitrite levels. Research indicates that maintaining an optimal temperature of 27 degrees Celsius significantly boosts broodstock survival and reproductive performance.
