Montgomery County Supervisors to Consider Data Center Zoning Study and Tax Proposals

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Montgomery County supervisors will discuss a proposed resolution to study data center zoning at their meeting on Monday. The current zoning law does not define or allow data center facilities. The resolution aims to address the rise in data center proposals in Virginia and nationwide, requesting community input and recommendations for zoning ordinance changes.

Additionally, supervisors will consider delaying penalties for late real estate and personal property taxes due December 5 due to inclement weather. A public hearing will also be held for a proposed ordinance to create a separate personal property tax classification for vehicles used by volunteer emergency responders, effective 2026 if adopted. The planning commission is finalizing updates to the comprehensive plan, with public hearings scheduled for January and February.
