New York Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed a new initiative that requires data center operators to take on a greater share of the costs for their energy usage, aiming to mitigate the impact of rising electricity demand on household utility bills. Under this proposal, large power users that do not significantly contribute to job growth or other state benefits will be required to either generate their own electricity or face higher rates for grid energy.
