Norwegian Parliament Committee Rejects Crypto Mining Licensing System
DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
The Energy and Environment Committee of the Norwegian Parliament has decided against introducing a new bureaucratic licensing system for cryptocurrency mining. Reynir Johannessen, Managing Director of the Norwegian Data Center Industry (NDI), emphasized the need to utilize existing regulations more effectively rather than creating additional complexity.
The government is considering a temporary ban on crypto activities due to high energy consumption and lower societal benefits. NDI supports evaluating data centers based on their impact on employment and the energy system.
