Ocean Infinity Completes 14-Vessel Armada Fleet of Robotic Low-Emission Ships

AMMONIA

Ocean Infinity has completed its 14-vessel Armada fleet of robotic low-emission ships, achieving this milestone in five years. The final vessel, Armada 8606, joins a fleet designed for minimal crew and reduced fuel consumption compared to traditional ships.

The Armada vessels feature advanced underwater robotics for data collection, making them valuable for geotechnical and geophysical surveys. The project commenced in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was supported by the UK Government's Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition.

The fleet includes 78-meter and 86-meter ships, which operate with a minimal crew supported by an onshore control center. The operational ships have demonstrated improved fuel efficiency and capabilities in complex offshore tasks. Ocean Infinity aims for the fleet to eventually achieve zero emissions through an ammonia-based propulsion system.
