Outokumpu has partnered with Norsk e-Fuel to establish a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (eSAF) production plant in Tornio, Finland, aiming to convert carbon monoxide from its ferrochrome production into 80,000-100,000 tons of eSAF annually. The project, which is expected to reduce Outokumpu's CO₂ emissions by 200,000 tons per year, is projected to cost between EUR 1.2-1.5 billion and create approximately 250 local jobs, with production anticipated to begin in 2032 following a feasibility study starting in 2026.
