The AI Factory Austria, launched in 2022, aims to enhance access to European high-performance computing for Austrian companies and research. The new coworking hub in Vienna, opened by Innovationsminister Peter Hanke, serves as a central location for collaboration in AI applications.

The initiative supports Austria's digital sovereignty with a budget of €1.7 billion for applied research. Access to supercomputing resources will initially be through the Leonardo supercomputer in Bologna, Italy, until a local supercomputer is operational by 2027.
