Philippines and Hungary Strengthen Economic Cooperation at 7th Joint Commission Meeting
The Philippines and Hungary reaffirmed their commitment to deepen economic cooperation during the 7th Philippines-Hungary Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation (PH-HU JCEC) held in Budapest on December 3-4, 2025. The Philippine delegation, led by DTI Undersecretary Allan Gepty, and Hungary's Deputy Minister Levente Magyar discussed key cooperation areas following an Experts Meeting that produced a draft protocol.
They agreed to continue high-level engagements and Hungary expressed interest in hosting a Philippine Department of Energy delegation in 2026 to study nuclear energy. The Philippines is set to host the second Philippines-Hungary Joint Committee Meeting on Science and Technology next year.
Both nations committed to sustainable agricultural and scientific initiatives, while Hungary supported concluding negotiations on a Philippines-EU Free Trade Agreement. The next PH-HU JCEC will be in the Philippines in 2026.
