Pure Data Centres to Construct €1 Billion Data Center in Westpoort, Amsterdam
Construction of a new data center, the largest in Amsterdam, will begin in January in Westpoort, costing over €1 billion. Pure Data Centres announced that all necessary building permits have been obtained, and the agreement with involved parties followed months of negotiations.
The facility will feature three 85-meter towers along Plimsollweg near Sloterdijk station, each with a data capacity of 26 megawatts, totaling 78 megawatts. The energy consumption will be equivalent to that of tens of thousands of households.
Despite a citywide construction halt on new data centers until 2035 due to space and electricity grid constraints, the project was likely pre-planned. The city currently has various data center clusters, notably at Science Park and Amstel III, and discussions are ongoing regarding sustainable practices for heating and cooling.
