Rolls-Royce SMR has contracted Skanska UK to develop an aseismic bearing pedestal prototype for its small modular reactor program, aimed at enhancing safety by isolating structures from seismic activity. The prototype will be created at Skanska's Doncaster facility to standardize designs for varying geotechnical conditions. This initiative is part of Rolls-Royce SMR's broader plans to contribute to the UK's goal of generating 1.5 GW of low-carbon energy and creating approximately 8,000 jobs at the Wylfa site.
