Skycore Semiconductors Secures €5 Million for Power Conversion Technology Commercialization
Danish semiconductor company Skycore Semiconductors has raised €5 million to commercialize capacitor-based switched technology for power conversion. This solution offers high power density and efficiency in a compact format suitable for consumer electronics, vehicles, telecommunications, and data centers.
Skycore originated from research at the Technical University of Denmark, where capacitor technology for dc-dc converters was developed. Its power chip integrates gate drivers and requires few external ceramic capacitors, significantly reducing losses, components, and costs.
The solution supports MOSFET power transistors in silicon and gallium nitride, enhancing cost-performance flexibility. Skycore has designed a 300 W dc-dc converter for 48 V systems with over 97% peak efficiency and approximately 5,800 W per cubic inch power density.
An updated version optimized for 800 V HVDC architectures is forthcoming. The latest funding round brings Skycore's total to €7.5 million, aimed at expanding the team, product development, manufacturing scaling, and strategic customer projects.
