Solis Arx Proposes $1 Billion Data Center Project in Wythe County, Expected to Generate $10 Million in Annual Tax Revenue
Solis Arx has proposed a $1 billion data center campus in Wythe County, expected to yield over $10 million annually in tax revenue, making it the county's largest taxpayer. Charlotte-based Cadence will serve as the general contractor for the project, which supports artificial intelligence and advanced computing services.
The campus is projected to require approximately 2,000 gallons of water daily, sourced from Wytheville, significantly less than typical data centers. Local officials have expressed concerns about environmental impacts and electricity rates, while some residents voiced skepticism regarding the project's economic benefits.
The county plans to use the additional revenue for public services. The project will also receive enterprise zone tax incentives. The county is extending infrastructure to support the development, which is set to create high-tech jobs.
