South Sudan has approved a budget of over $9 billion to construct a national fiber-optic backbone, with 2,400 kilometers of fiber set to begin in December 2025. This initiative aims to enhance digital governance and accountability, improve the country's low ranking on the UN E-Government Development Index, and stimulate economic growth, while addressing challenges such as high internet costs and limited access. The ICT minister also announced measures to reduce internet access costs to support these efforts.
