South Sudan has approved a budget of over $9 billion to construct a national fiber-optic backbone, with 2,400 kilometers of fiber set to begin in December 2025. This initiative aims to enhance digital governance and accountability, improve the country's low ranking on the UN E-Government Development Index, and stimulate economic growth, while addressing challenges such as high internet costs and limited access.
