SWISS Signs Long-Term Agreement with Synhelion for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Starting 2027
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has signed a long-term offtake agreement with Synhelion for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), committing to purchase at least 200 tons of solar jet fuel annually starting in 2027. This agreement is the first binding SAF offtake deal for SWISS and signifies a move toward reducing fossil fuel use in aviation.
Synhelion will produce renewable synthetic crude oil, or 'syncrude,' at its first commercial plant, which will be processed into certified Jet-A-1 fuel at an existing refinery. The fuel will be delivered through standard logistics.
SWISS will also resell part of this fuel to Kuehne+Nagel for air freight, supporting the logistics provider's sustainability goals. The partnership with Kuehne+Nagel includes a memorandum focused on sustainability and innovative technologies, with Kuehne+Nagel planning to purchase SAF from SWISS under a five-year agreement starting in 2027.
