Tolono Village Discusses TIF District Amid Data Center Speculation

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Village of Tolono held a public hearing on a proposed tax increment financing (TIF) district, which has sparked discussions about a potential data center in the area. Some residents support the TIF plan for its potential to attract new businesses, while others express concerns over resource allocation away from schools and community needs.

The TIF map includes substantial vacant land, raising questions about its suitability for a data center. Village President Terrance Stuber clarified that there are currently no plans for a data center linked to the TIF district, although a data center has expressed interest, suggesting a timeline of three to five years for development. Village officials confirmed that representatives from the potential data center have contacted American Water and Ameren regarding land needs within a mile and a half of Tolono.
