Researchers at UC San Diego have developed an AI tool that significantly reduces the planning time for cervical cancer brachytherapy treatments from hours to under four minutes. This innovative system, which integrates a deep learning model into Varian's BrachyVision software, automates the creation of customized treatment plans and was trained on over 1,800 historical cases. The AI-generated plans demonstrated a deviation of less than 4% from clinical standards, offering potential to enhance cervical cancer care, particularly in resource-limited settings, while still requiring clinician review.
