USA and Kazakhstan Launch Cooperation on Small Modular Nuclear Reactors
FUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER
The USA and Kazakhstan have initiated a civil nuclear cooperation focusing on small modular reactors (SMRs). This includes delivering a simulator for training and conducting a feasibility study for potential SMR construction in Kazakhstan.
The first phase involves supplying an SMR simulator to the nuclear physics institute in Almaty. Sargent & Lundy will assess suitable American SMR options for deployment. The initiative aims to enhance energy capacity amid existing electricity shortages in Kazakhstan and to support regional nuclear development.
