The Prince William County Board of Supervisors approved the Digital Gateway project, a proposed data center complex near Manassas National Battlefield Park, after a lengthy hearing in December 2023. The project, which includes 37 buildings and 14 substations, has faced legal challenges concerned about its impact on the historic site and the local electric grid.
Environmental groups estimate it will require over 2.9 gigawatts of electricity, enough to power 717,000 homes. The project has sparked significant community opposition and is expected to generate $400 million in annual revenue for the county.
