DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Wisconsin State Assembly has passed bill AB 840 with a 53-44 vote, which prevents data center operators from passing energy costs onto residential consumers and requires them to finance their own infrastructure. The legislation also mandates the use of closed-loop water systems for cooling, annual water usage reporting, and securing bonds for land reclamation. The bill, introduced by Representatives Shannon Zimmerman and Senator Romaine Quinn, will now be considered by the state senate.
