DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The World Bank Group celebrates a decade of collaboration with Malaysia, marked by the establishment of the Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Finance Hub in Kuala Lumpur in 2015. The Hub supports Malaysia's development goals, including job creation and the Islamic sustainable finance market, notably contributing to the green sukuk market since its inception in 2017.

In 2024, the IFC provided a US$150 million financing package for a hyperscale data center in Johor Bahru, mobilizing over US$800 million from global institutions, aligning with Malaysia's digital infrastructure ambitions. Additionally, a US$70 million blue loan was issued for a plastic recycling plant in Selangor.

The World Bank Group is also advising Malaysia on sustainable finance and public-private partnerships, enhancing job access and governance, particularly in Sarawak. Collaborative efforts include advancing the Southern Johor Renewable Energy Corridor and supporting the Asean Power Grid Initiative.
